The story begins with Lou, a struggling man who loses his job at a salvage yard. Desperate for work, he takes a job as a night shift worker at a local news station, where he meets Nina Romina (played by Rene Russo), the director of the station, and Joe Loder (played by Bill Paxton), a veteran cameraman. However, Lou soon becomes disillusioned with the mundane nature of his job and decides to start his own business, capturing footage of violent and gruesome crimes to sell to the local news stations.
As Lou's obsession with capturing the perfect footage grows, he begins to lose his moral compass.
