When he gets out years later, he’s no longer the innocent, nice guy. He’s bitter, cynical, and broke. He becomes a bartender at a sleazy bar and starts using his charm to manipulate rich women.

But Jae-hee, driven by greed, betrays him. She frames Ma-ru for a violent assault he didn’t commit, then abandons him to marry a rich, powerful chairman. Ma-ru goes to prison for her crime.

Kang Ma-ru (Song Joong-ki) is a bright, ambitious medical student with a promising future. He’s deeply in love with Han Jae-hee (Park Si-yeon), a news reporter from a humble background. To help Jae-hee pay for her studies and advance her career, Ma-ru sacrifices everything—including his tuition and his own future.

Eun-gi survives but loses her memory of the recent past—including her entire relationship with Ma-ru. She remembers hating him but not loving him.

Ma-ru discovers this and sees his chance. He deliberately seduces Eun-gi, planning to use her to destroy Jae-hee from the inside. But Eun-gi is not easy to fool. She’s sharp, damaged, and has her own trauma—she suffers from memory loss due to a past accident.
