Learning Tajweed is obligatory (Fardh Kifayah for the Ummah, but Fardh ‘Ayn for the individual reader). But let’s be honest: traditional Tajweed textbooks can be dense. Descriptions like “ Ikhfa is the middle state between Izhar and Idgham ” are helpful, but nothing compares to seeing where the tongue hits the roof of the mouth or how the breath flows through the nasal passage.
Use it to visualize the sounds, but keep your ears open for a qualified reciter. The best Tajweed is heard, then seen, then recited.

An illustrated PDF is an incredible reference tool and study aid, but Tajweed is a science of the lips and breath. You cannot learn the rolling of the Raa (ر) or the specific timing of a Madd (stretching) purely from a PDF.
