"How? Did you finally read the PDF?"

Jabu closed his eyes. He saw the imaginary Church Street intersection. He saw the blue car arriving first.

"No entry," Jabu mumbled.

He imagined a robot (traffic light) turning amber. The PDF said "stop if safe to do so." He stopped. A pedestrian stepped onto a zebra crossing. The PDF said "yield." He waited.

That night, Jabu didn't read the PDF. He closed his eyes and walked through it. He imagined driving his mother’s old Toyota down Church Street. At the stop sign (page 44), he stopped. She pointed to a triangle with an exclamation mark. "That?" He saw the blue car arriving first

When the screen flashed , Jabu didn't cheer. He just smiled and whispered, "Thanks, Gogo."

Jabu had one week until his learner’s test. On his phone, tablet, and laptop was the same thing: the dreaded, 200-page K53 PDF his friend Thabo had emailed him. The PDF said "stop if safe to do so
