From its 2011 premiere to its heartfelt 2018 finale, New Girl was more than just a sitcom about a quirky teacher moving in with three single guys. It became a masterclass in ensemble comedy, “adulting” anxiety, and the strange, wonderful family you build in your thirties. This 360° breakdown covers every season, every major arc, and the moments that made us say, “Gave me cookie, got you cookie.” Season 1: The Messy, Adorkable Beginning The Setup: After catching her boyfriend cheating, bubbly Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) moves into a Los Angeles loft with three strangers: Nick Miller (Jake Johnson), a grumpy, directionless bartender; Schmidt (Max Greenfield), an obsessive, narcissistic marketing executive; and Winston Bishop (Lamorne Morris), a former pro basketball player adjusting to life after sports. Rounding out the group is Jess’s best friend, Cece Parekh (Hannah Simone), a high-fashion model.
