If you’re buying a used copy or even an old sealed one, be prepared for the registration code to fail. Digital stores like Steam or GOG are much safer because they don’t rely on these dead servers. A shame, because the game itself is decent – but this DRM nightmare makes it nearly unplayable out of the box. Avoid physical PC copies at all costs.
I bought Need for Speed: Undercover hoping for some classic arcade racing action, but instead I’ve spent hours fighting the registration code system. After installing the game (retail DVD version), it asked for a code – fine, I entered the one from the manual. “Invalid code.” Tried again – same thing.
