Showed up at the Colosseum before the ticket office opened (8:15 AM). Walked right into the Palatine Hill entrance first, then descended into the Colosseum at 9:30 AM when the group tours were still lining up outside. Not Piazzale Michelangelo (too crowded), but the Giardino

Avoided any place with mountain-high, brightly colored gelato. Stuck to places where the pistachio is beige , not neon green. Never disappointed. Showed up at the Uffizi Gallery at 9 AM

Arrived at 4:30 PM (one hour before closing). No line. The afternoon sun hit the mosaics like liquid fire. Oles noted: “Better than any VIP tour I skipped.”
