Tap0901 Driver Windows 11 Apr 2026

The Tap0901 driver (often associated with OpenVPN, Viscosity, and other VPN tunneling software) is a legacy virtual network adapter. While it was a standard for years on Windows 7 and 10, its behavior on Windows 11 is a mixed bag.

Only install Tap0901 on Windows 11 if legacy software forces you to. For new VPN setups, use Wintun or WireGuard-based adapters—they are faster, more stable, and sign properly. If you must use Tap0901, expect minor manual intervention after updates or power cycles. It’s a aging workhorse, not a native citizen of Windows 11. Tap0901 Driver Windows 11
