This film is often confused with the 2006 fantasy-action film The Covenant (about warlocks). The 2017 film is a French-Canadian historical drama . Synopsis Set in New France (modern-day Quebec) in the 1660s, The Covenant follows a group of young men from diverse backgrounds—French settlers, an Englishman, and a Huron Native—who are bound by a secret pact. They have survived a shipwreck and now live in hiding, deep in the forests, after a massacre wiped out their colony. Their "covenant" is a promise to protect each other and keep their survival a secret from the outside world.

Fans of slow-burn historical thrillers, religious horror, and French-Canadian cinema. Not recommended for: Those seeking fast pacing, clear hero/villain arcs, or a connection to the 2006 film of the same name. the covenant 2017
