LUZ BEHOLD! The forbidden sparkle of distraction!

The door swings open, not into a wall, but into a purple, swirling void. Luz, without a second thought, leaps inside.

EDA You want magic? Fine. But this world eats people like us. Weirdos. Misfits. The ones who don’t fit.

Her teacher, MRS. NOCEDA (a kind, exhausted woman in scrubs), is driving. Luz’s face falls

Luz looks at her notebook. She sees the glyph she drew—the one that exploded. She traces it again in the dirt, then slaps it onto a rock. The rock GLOWS and flies into a guard’s face.

LUZ (to herself) Azura never had it this good.

EDA Fine. One lesson. If you survive, you can stay. If not… well, the house is hungry. A small, sad butterfly

HOOTY (popping out) That’s vandalism! I love it!

Luz stands in front of the door. She could go home. Back to camp. Back to “normal.”

Luz, thinking fast, pulls out a party sparkler from her backpack. She lights it and throws it.
