Unfortunately, the film cannot escape its lineage. For the first hour, The Watchers is a superior mood piece. Then the third act arrives, and the ghost of M. Night himself possesses the editing bay.

The film’s greatest asset is its texture. Shyamalan the younger has an eye for the liminal. The Irish forest is rendered as a cathedral of green darkness; the bunker feels cold, metallic, and suffocating.
