Marcus zoomed in on the substation’s feed. The man in the hard hat had stopped screaming. He was slumped against a transformer, unmoving.

Marcus’s blood went cold. This wasn’t a touchup. It was a takedown. Someone had slipped a logic bomb inside a genuine certificate. And he had just given it the keys to the kingdom.

Marcus rubbed his eyes and glanced at the screen. A single dialog box hovered over his remote desktop connection to the Hill Valley Power Grid’s auxiliary server.

He frowned. "Touchup?" He’d never seen that filename before. Usually, it was patch_ .exe or security_bundle .exe. But the digital signature was authentic—a perfect match to the plant’s internal certificate authority. Marcus zoomed in on the substation’s feed

He clicked .

The notification pinged softly, a polite green chime against the grey static of the late shift.

For ten seconds, there was nothing but darkness and the smell of ozone.

Then the feed vanished, replaced by a cheerful blue loading bar labeled .
