He hadn’t finished the episode. He’d barely started the story.
Leo died four minutes later. A blade through the ribs. Pain so white and loud that he forgot his own name before remembering it again in the dark.
But for the first time, he understood Subaru. Not the meme. Not the suffering. The simple, terrible truth:
The screen swallowed him.
Then he woke on the cobblestones. Same bruised sky. Same stolen bread. Same Emilia.
It started with a late-night scroll, a thumb hovering over a thumbnail titled: "Watch Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu - H..."
Leo laughed. He’d seen the memes. Subaru’s tragic, time-looping curse. “Sure,” he muttered, reaching for his cold coffee. “Why not? It’s just a show.” Watch Re-Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu - H...
Her name was Emilia. And just like the show, she was kind, suspicious, and in possession of a missing insignia. But unlike the show, the thugs who ambushed them didn’t have cartoonish sneers. They had rotten teeth, real knives, and the smell of desperation.
“No,” Leo croaked. “I’m… I’m a guy who wanted to watch an anime.”
They survived. The insignia was recovered. And as the sunset painted the alley gold, Emilia offered him a genuine smile—the first one not tinged with suspicion. He hadn’t finished the episode
And the play button was already pressed.
“I watched the extended cut,” he said, with a hollow laugh.
“Are you… an assassin?” she whispered. A blade through the ribs
She stared at him. “How could you know that?”
He found the solution on loop nine. Not by fighting, but by remembering a throwaway line from the actual show’s first episode: the insignia was in the loot house’s back room, under a loose floorboard. He told Emilia exactly where to look, exactly which thug would swing first, exactly how to sidestep.
